Parma Cafe, 412 Kennington Road, SE 11
I wish I'd found this place before I'd finished the book. It would definitely have been in there. It's a huge, magnificent place around the corner from the oval. You get the impression that this Parma cafe sign and name has been bolted on to an underlying cafe theme which is completely different. That accretion of history is one of the things I love about cafes.
(Apologies about the quality of the pictures, Anne'd borrows the camera and I had to use my phone.)
A very nice ebcb. All packed onto a tiny plate which is always fun. The bacon is completely hidden under the nice plump chips.
Look, there it is.
Condiments are a real strength of this place. My table had this brilliant set. Look at those lovely colours and the textures against the wall.
And this set has got this extra special salt and pepper set. A lovely 60s feel. Just imagine when all this was new and there was a set like this on every table.
I've always liked these bolted in orange chairs too. Are they a Wimpy thing? Is this a Wimpy legacy?
And all around the walls there are these marvelous illustrations/paintings of Greek Gods and stuff. It was obviously a theme at one time, but seems to have nothing to do with 'Parma'.
nice! my 1st time at your website. 'wimpy legacy'?! 'accretion of history'?! and pictures of bacon peaking out from under a pile of chips! this is amazing. very enjoyable. i will be coming back regularly.

What a resource!!!!
Been to many of these places and now cutting down on the chips!
My input to the site is to recommend my local cafe, it's the
Gambardellas cafe at Blackheath Standard SE3 - a classic 1950s style place.Even find the odd celebrity in there on a saturday morning!
James makes the perfect capuchino, just the way it should be!
Got great reviews wherever you look!
