you have to be careful when you go to the star. it's a soho institution and can get busy - which means it's not always the best place to nurse a long cup of tea. however, mid-morning it's a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. it's a bit more than a cafe, quite posh, proper food and gets an interesting crowd.
it's covered in old ads and 'olde worlde' parahenalia which shoud feel forced but somehow doesn't. and they've always got a telly on by the sandwich bar which you can stare at.
Hi Patrick,
I just adore this place. I always make a point of calling into it whenever I visit London. I usually have one of the daily specials for lunch as they are always good. The Italian owner, Mario, has apparently worked there all his life and took over from his father. He's a friendly chap and I always come away with a new joke.

I've just been for the first time and I love it. I can't believe I've lived in London for 10 years and I never knew about this place. I shall definitely make myself a regular there now...

Am doing research on The Star Cafe as my mum Linda worked there when she was in her teens for Pop, Mario's father. I am glad there are so many people out there who appreciate this fantasic Cafe.

The greatest cafe in London. Have been going for 37 years! Now moved to LA, but always great to see Mario when I get back to Soho, and have one of the daily specials at lunchtime. On no account miss the kippers at breakfast - they're awesome!
