The Light Railway Restaurant is a brilliant place, next to the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway station. It doesn't look that promising from the outside, but inside it's a gorgeously preserved slab of a particular English atmosphere.
White mug. Brown tea. Yellow table. All is right with the world.
I'm not sure they're completely ready for the smoking ban, at the moment their priorities are clear. This is a good place for a smoke.
I love the behind the counter area in a good cafe. There's always something to tempt you.
And the industrial quality of the tea-plumbing is always worth examining.
More commitment to smoking, and smoking related promtional items.
Look at the perfection of those chairs and that table. This set would be under two words in the dictionary: spindly and patina.
You can't beat hand-lettering. This is a brilliant place. Must go back for the full ebcb.
you should go the other end of the line to sample tea and think at dungeness. many years ago my brother and i visited every greasy spoon in and around kilburn to sample ebcb. we assessed on taste/value/ambience/attitude of staff. the clear winner was fleetways at the kilburn high rd end of willesden lane - opposite biddy mulligans (as was). Is it still there? don't know but will go and find out. Also regency in regency st. london sw1 worth visit - my current lunchtime haunt. although the best ever was a drunken ebcb at the 24 hour cafe at brighton bus station.
