Just goes to show, there's always another cafe to visit. I've walked past this place thousands of times, never went in, despite suggestions from Patrick. And it's a splendid place. Busy, cosy and friendly.

A delightful ebcb - the roundest chips I've ever seen, and the sunniest egg. Very respectable amounts of bacon and beans. A great way to start a day.

Lovely simple condiment cluster. Very metal and clean.

It's a place of nice little booths, dark green leathery stuff, deep marble/rock/something effect tables. Lots of good places for solitary paper reading.

DeNiro's, 34 Maple Street, W1

DeNiro's is a classic, low-tech, plain and simple, no frills cafe - with a few funky bits of signage and more than decent grub. I don't believe Mr R. DeNiro is involved.

The ebcb is surprisingly delicate and lovely. Made all the more gorgeous by its window position, illuminated in the autumnal sun. Big fluffy eggs, lots of nibbly little chips, tender pink bacon and a superdense pile of beans.

A minimalist condiment approach. Sculptural. Ethereal. Other-worldly. Well, not really. Just some condiments.

There's a lovely bright yellow feel to the place and a big mirror, and some funky signage which I've managed to completely blur in this picture.

I should go back.

lovely. generous portions. nice crunchy chips. everything has its place, nothing on top of anything else.

don't forget the sauce.

oops. the playmobil man's had a heart attack. sky 2 is an old favourite since we live round the corner. there's a lot going on. it's a proper no-frills, small/family business cafe.

the 'condiment cluster' is always a sign of a good cafe. is everything there? is it arranged in a way that makes sense? this is a classic format.

a good cafe also has arbritary and pointless rules. what does 'set menu can not be changed' actually mean? and a good cafe always makes fullsome use of clip art.

look, out of the window, a nice moment for a cafe, some poor devil who's broken down.

this is one of the little details i like about this place. it's called sky 2, it says so outside. because the same people also own the sky cafe at the other end of the same street, 2 minutes walk south. i presume it was called the hanson cafe before they took it over. because they're still got a lot of hanson menus and they wear a combination of hanson and sky branded t-shirts. it's a great place, lovely people.
