Why don't we have ads like this in the UK? Are we too 'intellectual' to trust a belly-laugh?

I once saw a student campaign for the Aberdeen Steak House and, while I can't remember any of the ads themselves, the endline made me laugh:

'The Aberdeen Steak House: a vegetarian's nightmare.'

On a similar theme, I seem to recall an ad for an American steak house with the following line:

'If we aren't supposed to eat aninals, why did God make them out of meat?'

dunno. odd isn't it. i'd kill to work on a beef account. (if you see what I mean). We do funny ads in the UK but they always have to be downbeat and distressed in some way. Something cleverly pomo and soho. What I love about these is a fantastic gag tied to a gorgeous product shot.
