Russell, why not use a Skype multichat? Just start a chat with one person, change the chat topic to something meaningful, and then add the other participants one-by-one. More here: http://www.skype.com/help/guides/chat.html#h-adding
OK , I know the adding-one-by-one bit is a pain. And you’ll need to know everyone’s Skype names. But it is free.
Disclosure: I'm a planner, working on Skype, but this isn't a shameless plug - we use multichats all the time and they make decision making really speedy.
