get your fat people here

Ymr

Went to the York Model Railway at the weekend. Fantastic place. Best model rail place we've been to for ages because you could actually press buttons and make stuff happen. Sometimes it was start a train, but sometimes it was something so small you had to peer really close to see what you were doing; like getting a miniature angler to cast for a fish. It was the tiniest of actions but it didn't matter because there's something magical about pressing a button and making something happen in another world.

The best bit was the shop though - all kinds of stuff for modelers. Including this set of Fat People which I couldn't resist. This is the way to get to know your target audience. I wonder if they do ABC1 Men or Digital Natives.

badges of rank

Badges_1 Inspired by the Order Of The Science Scout badges Anthony has created these splendid badges for those who went to Faris's Beer Evening. I wish I'd gone now, I love a good badge.

And it reminded me of a pet stupid theory of mine, which I thought I'd written on here, but which actually I think I wrote up on a long defunct homestead page I once had. It's this;

Agencies should have uniforms.

Everyone should have boiler-suits and the different departments should have different colours. Or maybe the planners should have white coats instead. (Because we might as well embrace the stupid cliches.)

There should be a system of stripes on your sleeve to signify your rank, so clients don't have to waste time talking to anyone too junior. This would make meetings shorter.

And you should have campaign medals on your chest indicating what you'd worked on in the past so people would know if you knew what you were talking about. An independent committee could be appointed to rule on any disputed cases and finally determine just which people are entitled to say they worked on Wonderbra.

This is the kind of stuff the IPA should be working on. Not mucking about with remuneration and 'the future'. Come on. Let's introduce agency uniforms. Get a bit of discipline back in the business.

order of the science scouts

20ice2_1 52flame1_1 44astro1_1 These badges from the Order Of The Science Scouts of Exemplary Repute and Above Average Physique are genius. (via spurgeonblog) Someone should do some planning equivalents. I only qualify for these three. Which is a bit pathetic for any self-proclaimed generalist. I'd love to how many any of you lot can lay claim to. Any real scientists out there?

climb aboard for free stuff

Bandwagon_1Matt pointed out this simple but effective offer from  bandwagon. If you link to them, and display their logo before the official launch on Feb 22nd. They'll give you free service for a year. Not rocket science, but clever. It perhaps struck me more forcibly because I've just been looking again at Herd, wondering what tactics would emerge from it. And this is one I'm sure Mark would approve of. Plus, I might get free stuff.

sausage wins

Marcus

Marcus wins the vote. Almost 600 people voted and it's this close:

595

I just want to say I'm proud to have taken part in a great match and I'm just sorry to have let all those great bacon fans down. Best fans in the world. Best wishes to Marcus as the competition continues and I'm looking forward to coming back next year with more focus and determination.

blimey

Votes

With 112 votes in it's 50/50. I don't care who wins any more. This thing's bigger than all of us. Vote or face the shame of explaining to your grandchildren that you sat on the fence on the great meat debate of 07.

meat excitement and intelligence

Meat

A lot of excitement in the Meat Bracket. When I voted burgers and lamb were 50/50. Blimey. Also interesting to see, as Beeker's pointed out, that Vizu doesn't show a lot of intelligence in pointing you at other polls, assuming that since you've just voted on meat v meat you're now interesting in global affairs. Strange since, let's face it, they're currently hosting a lot of meat-based polls.

sausage versus bacon

Get Your Poll Widget

I'm representing bacon in Jared's Carnivore Project Meat Bracket, taking on the mighty Marcus and 'sasuage' so I thought I'd better make an effort and do a video. If you want to vote, go here and do so. I bet Tim Berners-Lee is dead proud of what we're doing with his internet.

UPDATE: This is the state of play with a few hours to go and 476 votes cast. If you've not voted, you should,  the blogosphere is clearly poised on a knife edge.
